A wedding during the Corona pandemic. Despite restrictions and with mask we were able to take such beautiful wedding photos in the Murnauer Moos.
Grateful, happy and forever in my heart… that’s how I can describe my first Corona wedding.
After 1.5 months of wedding cancellations and postponements came the call of dear Kathi: “we are getting married on 16.05. – no matter how and even if we can only be two”. I made 1000 jumps inside and was happy like the very first time I was allowed to accompany a wedding as a wedding photographer. At that time it was still clear that I would have to wait in front of the registry office in Murnau and that we probably wouldn’t be allowed to do a couple shoot.
The day was getting closer and closer and in the meantime the exit restriction in Bavaria had been lifted. “Yay – a wedding shoot after all”….
The phone call with the registry office in Murnau two days before the wedding revealed that the bride and groom may take eight other people of the immediate family circle with them into the wedding hall. Here, unfortunately, the wedding photographer – that is, I – does not count.
But at least I was allowed to conjure up a few memories before the wedding ceremony and afterwards and make a beautiful couple shooting with the two.
Full of excitement and anticipation, I then drove to the registry office in Murnau on 16.05.. And then came the moment I will never forget… The registrar came out and said, “We can take the photographer inside!” I can tell you, I had tears in my eyes because I was so incredibly happy… FINALLY a “real” wedding ceremony again.
Even if now everyone will say, how can you marry during Corona. But it was actually an almost normal wedding: the only difference was that you had to make your way to the wedding hall wearing a mask. And then everyone was allowed to take off their masks. The guests were seated at a distance from each other… but even that can be accepted.
And the advantage here is that you also get a great portrait of each guest, because the view is free for the photographer and no one is sitting in front or in between.
I can definitely say that this wedding was one of my absolute highlights. It was simply about love and getting married and not about who has the biggest party, the best food and the best atmosphere at their wedding. Sometimes it’s good to get back to the real values, isn’t it?
And we celebrate when we are allowed to do so again. And as I got to know my bridal couple, they are also not deterred if you simply keep the mask on in the restaurant until you are seated. After all, you can then still spend beautiful hours with your loved ones. Because no one can bring this time back to you.
So have the courage to get married during this time and just rethink a little – the “new” marriage is not worse than the “old, usual” marriage.
